Contractor Leads - The Good, The Bad & The Ugly!

With so many search engine marketing companies on the prowl, General Contractors who hire "experts" to market their business online better make sure that who they are hiring has more to offer than a promise to place them at the top of the page.

It is no secret that there are companies using Google to make 100’s of  thousands of dollars online and there are also smaller contractors who combined have lost 10 times that by hiring incompetent online marketing companies, whose concern was more about how large a budget they could get from the general contractor and how many of the same types of clients they could close than being concerned with the overall success of the clients.

Kip Charles from http://www.contractorleadssuck.com helps contractors generate high quality leads and has heard horror stories of businesses who have forked over $5,000 -$10,000 at a time and were not even given a unique site that was tailored to their strengths.  Instead they received a template which was put together using the clients information from either their current website, flyers and/or brochures.  The same type of site that a $500 client would receive.

I want to share with you three things that I believe every Search Engine Marketing Company should be doing for General Contractor Clients.

The first thing is they should be looking to do a S.W.O.T (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis prior to setting up the campaign so that they have a thorough understanding of what it is that the general contractor does well and what he may not do so well.  By understanding the client's strengths and weakness the marketer can separate each service by profit center and prioritize each one according to ROI and demand for service. Then they can set up the campaigns accordingly.

Second, they should be able to take those strengths and use them as a tool to differentiate their client from the other 20 potential competitors on the page. Just because the marketer places his client first on the page does not guarantee that  the client will get any business.  All it does is guarantee that the client will spend the most money.

At http://www.contractorleadssuck.com our priority is not always to get you at the top of the page as much as it is to see how potential custmers interact with your site and its content. Once we know that then we can invest clients funds more wisely.

Third, clients should be able to communicate the online strategy clearly to the general contractor so that their expectations can be managed.  There are companies who guarantee clients that they will give them 50 -75 leads in the first 30 days but they never talk about the quality of the leads.  Clients hire internet marketers not because they want contractor leads but because they want jobs; they want the phone to ring; they want calls for estimates, etc.  They don’t want leads as much as they want the end result that leads are suppose to bring.

In closing, general contractors, when choosing a lead generation company should look for the same quality that they would expect to give potential clients when they are doing their kitchens, bathrooms, room additions, etc.
